Using Your Fujitsu Laptop PC Safely:
Request for Customers to Update the Battery Charging Control Function
(Fujitsu begins distribution of the update via Windows Update)

Thank you for your continued commitment to Fujitsu and its products.

Fujitsu has released an update for the Battery Charging Control function used on its laptop PCs in order to enable customers to use them more safely.
We would like to ask you to apply this update to your laptop PC.

Fujitsu is distributing this update automatically via Microsoft's Windows Update service. If the following screen appears, the update applies to your laptop PC so please follow the instructions to apply the update.

*The software to be updated will vary depending on the model of your laptop PC.

This update is intended to make the used standard battery technology even safer. The update minimizes the internal pressure according to the battery drainage by controlling the charging of the battery, thereby allowing our customers to use their Fujitsu laptop PCs even more safely. To ensure that your laptop PC is protected against this battery drain problem, please be sure to apply this update.
Please note that other models have been added to the range of applicable models since October 30, 2018. If you have already applied the update for the Battery Charging Control function, you do not need to confirm the applicability of your laptop PC again.
The battery used for a laptop PC is a consumable component and it will gradually drain even if you use your laptop PC with the AC adapter plugged in. If you feel that your battery may have drained, please also consider purchasing a replacement battery pack to ensure that you can continue using your laptop PC safely. For a description of how to recognize and confirm signs of battery drain, see the "Guide to Checking for Battery Drain."

If the following screen appears, some software for enabling the update tool was missing on this PC. Please follow onscreen instruction to install necessary software.

Necessary software: "Fujitsu FUJ02E3 Device Driver", "Fujitsu System Extension Utility", "Fujitsu BIOS Driver","Fujitsu FUJ0420 Driver" and "Intel MEI® Driver"

New BIOS Update Tool for the LIFEBOOK A530

There is a New BIOS Update Tool for the LIFEBOOK A530 models. If you applied a BIOS update before April 19, 2019, you will need to apply the new BIOS update ASAP. Please follow the instructions displayed on the Figure 1 pop-up message above.

With the previous BIOS (V1.21) released on February 13, 2019, the CPU fan may not operate properly, which can lead to heat build-up if the power supply is stopped or the battery level becomes zero. Please apply the latest BIOS update ASAP by“FUJITSU Battery Ctrl Update Tool” to avoid the above scenario.

"Downloaded ‘BIOS update tool’ is invalid" message.

Figure 2. "Download 'BIOS update tool' is invalid" pop-up message.
If you get the pop-up message on the right after you click “Start” on the Figure 1 pop-up message, it means a new version of the BIOS update tool is available. In this case, please select “Cancel” from the Figure 2 pop-up message on the right, and download the latest “FUJITSU Battery Ctrl Update Tool” here.

Batteries of notebook PC’s are consumables and they drain gradually even if you use your PC with an AC adapter. If you feel that the battery level is low, please consider to replace the battery pack for your safety. Please see the "Guide to Checking for Battery Drain" in order to check your battery.

Applicable Models (Provision Status and Software to Be Updated)

This update applies to all laptop PCs that were first sold between 2010 and 2016*1 (however, the update is not required for some models).
Your laptop PC will be updated with one of the following software programs: PMU firmware update tool, BIOS update tool, or Battery Charging Control Utility.
The provision status and software programs to be updated will vary depending on the model of your laptop PC. See the following list to confirm the provision status and software programs to be updated for your laptop PC.

*1 This update does not apply to models released in 2009 or earlier. In addition, models released in the first half of FY2017 or later include the updated version of the Battery Charging Control function so they do not need to be updated.

Cautionary Notes

  • If your laptop PC has been updated with the PMU firmware update tool or BIOS update tool and your battery has become drained, the charge indicator may display a status of 100% despite the actual battery operating time (charge volume) being about 85% of what it would have been before the update was applied.
  • Once the PMU firmware update tool or BIOS update tool has been applied, your laptop PC cannot be restored to the state that existed before the update was applied.
  • If your laptop PC has been updated with the Battery Charging Control Utility and your battery has become drained, the actual battery operating time (charge volume) will be about 65% of what it was before the update was applied.
  • If the Battery Charging Control Utility has been applied, you can restore your laptop PC to the state that existed before the update was applied by performing a recovery operation. After you have performed the recovery operation, you will need to apply the update again.
  • When updating PC disconnected to the internet, please contact our customer support center near you.
  • If you are using the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), the update procedure is not the same. For more information, see the "Reference information" section below.
  • You will require administrator privileges to apply the update.
  • If you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, Windows Update will also be distributed to devices that the update does not apply to, including devices other than laptop PCs. However, the update tool will not be activated on such devices.
